Sesame Street in Communities: Learning Through Play

Haywood County, Parents as Teachers, Dogwood Trust, Cookie Monster, Block Play, Community Event

In March of this year, we partnered with Dogwood Trust and Parents as Teachers to host a free family event for Haywood County. Our focus for the event was using play to support learning and affirming that parents/caregivers are a child’s first teacher.

With the help of volunteers and resources from Haywood County and beyond, we provided 140 children and 90 adults with fun activities, snacks, and valuable resources. Event activities included block themed play stations, yoga, housekeeping play, sensory bottles, face painting and free giveaways including books for children and families.

Of course, our biggest highlight of the day was special guest Cookie Monster!

Parents, children, and community members alike talked about the huge success of the event and how fun it was for everyone who attended and for those who helped on the day of the event.
