Sesame Street in Communities: Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds
Sesame Street in Communities, Rosita, Early Childhood Development, Health, Nutrition
In September of this year, we partnered with Dogwood Trust, Harris Regional Hospital, and Parents as Teachers to host a free family event for Jackson County. Our focus for the event was nutrition and social/emotional learning and affirming that parents/caregivers are a child’s first teacher.
With the help of 23 volunteers and 28 resources from Jackson County and beyond, we provided 33 families with 60 children fun activities, block play, and valuable resources with free giveaways supporting children and families. Event activities included a tasting station to encourage trying more fruits and veggies with Uncomplicated Kitchen, a calm down tent with Jackson County Public Schools, Zumba, face painting with CDSA, and an avocado toss with the Jackson County Public Library.
Of course, our biggest highlight of the day was special guest Rosita! A crowd favorite for sure, Rosita brought big energy providing smiles and delight!
The volunteers and resources were integral to the event’s success. We cannot thank them enough!
Parents, children, and community members alike buzzed about the success of the event and how fun it was for everyone who attended.
